Generally, the best way to progress will be split between story missions as you progress further into the map, and claiming FOBs to both uncover point of interest and make it faster to move around.

Story Missions - The main story missions will lead you slowly around the map, anti clockwise although you're free to break off and free roam at any point between missions. The non-story ones also function as fast travel points once captured. Some are required for the story and some aren't. Outposts - These are large Banished bases you can clear out. This comes after multiple arguments on the subreddit spiraling out of control, and even getting to the point of users doxxing one another and issuing death threats. Doing so will earn you a specialised, customised weapon and some Valor. Following a recent barrage of toxicity that has reached levels previously thought impossible, the Halo subreddit has been temporarily locked down. Targets - There are numerous high-value, named Banished targets you can find and kill.

All of these are things the mod team has dealt with and will continue to deal with. Someone saying they're fine with the game or to give it some time doesn't mean you can call them a "bootlicking dicksucker". Someone criticizing the game doesn't mean you get to say they're an "entitled crybaby manchild". This cuts both ways whether you are happy or unhappy with the game as-is.

The primary thing the mod team cares about is limiting insults and toxicity, because it makes it impossible to have actual conversation. Take the weekend off, we're reopening on Monday. At the end of the day this is a video game and this level of vitriol is unwarranted. We're temporarily putting the sub on lockdown so people can hopefully settle down a bit and we can hit the reset button before launch. Some users on the sub have even been responsible for doxxing and death threats. The amount of toxicity on the sub from both sides has made it impossible for people to have civil discussions, which is what the mod team strives for regardless of opinion. ORIGINAL MESSAGE - On all sides this has absolutely gone on long enough and spiraled out of control. We just want everyone to be on the same page that discourse needs to be constructive and not insulting. As we said below, criticism of Halo Infinite and 343 has always been allowed and will still be allowed post-lockdown. The decision to lock down was entirely made by us because toxicity had reached a breaking point and was increasing exponentially. No one on the team works for 343 and we haven't received any communication from 343 apart from the same public community manager responses everyone has gotten. This is a sub run by a volunteer team of Halo fans. EDIT - In response to the latest video from Late Night Gaming and for other people who just simply may not be aware:
